Friday 22nd September 2006.
Meet at the Grasmere Thorny Howe Youth Hostel from 5pm to 7.30pm.
WILL ALL PLEASE BOOK IN AT RECEPTION UPON ARRIVAL!
When entering the Hostel book in at Reception. You are ALL booked in under the name of
BRADLEY ("LEADER"). Your rooms will hopefully have been allocated,
as the staff will tell you.
You will be asked if you would like to book a Breakfast or any evening meal, I suggest you book and pay (about £3.95) for a breakfast for the Saturday and Sunday.
You may order sandwiches of a varied choice to be ready for collection after breakfast for a packed lunch. You may also make your own but if you do I suggest that sandwiches are prepared the night before to allow more time in the morning.
EVENING MEALS
The Friday evening meal has not been booked at this point in time but it is anticipated that
we will all dine in the pub in the village at about 8PM. The pub is approximately 500 meters
down the road in Grasmere and is quite easily found.
The Saturday evening meal will be consumed in the village dependant upon agreement between
ourselves.
Saturday 23rd September 2006.
Leave the Hostel at 8.45AM and precede North Westerly in cars towards
Patterdale YHA. The walk starts from the hostel climbing Striding Edge
where it is anticipated that some great views will undoubtedly unfold
before our eyes! We then continue the climb up and over Helvellyn.
ALL who are attempting to start the walk MUST make sure they have the
correct clothing, footwear and food reserves. It is imperative that we
all stick together and don't go walking off without telling your LEADER,
(Leslie Wakeford!). If you do go off to the pub instead (Brian), you may
find that the Mountain Rescue has gone out looking for you and you could
end up with an expensive bill to pay!
Mobile contact will be hard to come across so don't rely on this. If your feeling unwell stick
with me throughout the walk so if anybody feels as though they need some assistance I can get it.
If anybody is suffering from vertigo or such like they can report to me and a decision will be
made as to where to re-direct the walk etc
When everybody is accounted for on completion of the walk, a massage service is available at £50
per session with the NOW experienced Aroma therapist/Leader Head Massage'ist Jeanette Powell
(Yes Jeanette even you are allowed your name in "LIGHTS" - Stick with me Kid), but only AFTER
your "LEADER" has tested the service FIRST!
SATURDAY EVENING
Entertainment will be provided "FREE of CHARGE" by the
UNFORGETABLE
"Bradley Experience" with his "sexy Quavers"(You can fight
over this one)! He has just returned from a concert tour of London staring as "Joseph"
with his amazing Technicolor Dream coat! Where he went down in "Spectacular Style" (He was shot at)!
If anyone has a Musical instrument and is willing to join in the "FUN with a capital F", please feel
free to join us.
Sunday 24th September 2006.
Breakfast in Youth Hostel at 8.00 approx.
A short walk of 17 miles is planned (only joking, about 5 miles really-HONEST) as a warm down.
This walk will include The Langdale Pikes arriving from the Top side, dependant on the
time we have.
We will probably go back to the Hostel for a cuppa and a GINGER SCONE before heading off home.
This event is a part of our walking season and promises to be an excellent weekend. The committee of the Hubberton Hikers would like to extend a cordial welcome to ALL our friends and visitors who are joining us for the first time this weekend. If you are interested in joining us on any future hikes, please log onto our "NEWLY UPDATED" website at the following web address. www.hubbertonhikers.co.uk (for those of you reading this on a piece of paper).
A65 Skipton bypass all the way toward Kirby Lonsdale. Continue along past Kirby
Lonsdale heading for the M6. When you come to the roundabout at the M6 Junction 38
go straight across and head toward Windermere. At Windermere you continue along
through Ambleside towards Grasmere. Continue through the village of Grasmere
noting the YHA signs as you are about to leave the village. Turn left up the hill
PAST YHA Butharlyp Howe until you reach YHA Thorney How.
Alternatively you may go on the M62/M60, M61 and then the M6. Follow the above
instructions from Junction 40. The latter is quicker but not as scenic, so dependant
on what time you set off - THE CHOICE IS YOURS!
