The Fifty-Second of our “Hubberton Hikers Hikes” is now scheduled for Saturday July 21st 2007. The hike is planned to start at 11am from Mums residence, 2, Rooley Farm, Hubberton. The hike is approximately 7.5 miles long and will take about 3.5 to 4 hours at a gentle pace. It is planned to have a Bar-B-Q at the farm and also an overnight camp when the hike is completed. Hikers must bring their own Tents/food to cook and any drink they wish to consume. Rounders will be played along with other games that your Leader cares to come up with!! Songs around the campfire will be sung (including Kum-By-R) by Bradley and the Bradleyets to conclude your evening’s entertainment.

Directions: Speak to your LEADER if you need directions.
The walk itself begins by turning left from the farm along the road; follow it round to the right, up and round Hubberton Green Road and along Mire Lane to Wine Tavern Lane. Turn left (straight forward), on a narrow tarmac road passing a couple of cottages/barns on your right and the road up to the house on the hill on your left. The track gradually climbs until you see a gate in a fence on your left that we take and follow round to the left through vegetation. Take a right turn when you reach the fence at the top but not before turning around and taking in the magnificent views behind you of the Calder Valley. We follow the bridle path up until it meets another bridle path approx 500 metres further along. At this juncture we turn left as if coming back on ourselves, and continue down for approx a further 500 metres where we see the signpost on our right for Crow Hill. Take a right turn here through pastureland, past the high hill farm until you reach the summit of Crow Hill. Take a good look at the vast viewing expanse here of Rochdale and Oldham areas and looking farther a field, into Manchester. Turn and retrace your footsteps until we meet the bridle path that goes to our right past Lower Crow Hill farm. Follow this on its lofty course to the main road that is about 1000 metres along, passing another farm along the way. We can either follow the road down to the Alma Inn for a “Brian Ennis” beer brake [sic] or continue along the road heading in the direction of the Old Blue Ball Inn where we can skirt “Flints Moor” before returning via the Alma. The choice is ours on the day but the difference in distance could be some 3 miles. The rest of the Walk can be obtained from Leader if desired before the date, otherwise follow “YOUR LEADER” on the day. |
ANY FRIENDS OR FAMILY CAN JOIN THIS BRILLIANT BAND OF PEOPLE ON THE DAY AT THE SAID TIME. PLEASE INFORM LEADER OF ANY INTAKES!
The route sometimes referred to as “Leaders Loses his Lethargic Leash,(LLLL-The 4 L’s), cuts and twists its way through high moors Southwest of Hebden Bridge. Bursting with the rabbits and the smell of the cattle, it makes a fine entrée to the high moorland traverse that follows. This walk uses the Crow Hill permissive path across farmer’s fields. The start will be taken at a leisurely pace so as to make sure that ALL those who wish to complete the hike will do so. PLEASE take note of "ANDYS AMBLING ADVICE" and ensure that warm and waterproof clothing is/are taken in case of any change in the weather.
