The Thirty second of our "Hubberton Hikers Hikes" is now scheduled for Saturday August 13th 2005. The hike is planned to start at 11am from the PAY and DISPLAY car park at Bolton Abbey. The hike is approximately 11 miles long and will take about 4 to 4.5 hours at a gentle pace. It is planned to have a Celebratory "Birthday Meal" and a drink at Henri's Bistro just outside Skipton when the hike is completed.

The walk itself begins from the car park at its North end where you cross the road
and follow the path down to the river. We will cross the river by the stepping
stones (for those who dare!) or via the bridge. The path inclines and goes around
to the North before descending toward the river. While descending this path it is
of interest that a fallen tree can be observed with "coins" of the realm embedded
in it. Upon reaching the river head in a North easterly direction following the
river up to the "Strid" which is a very dangerous fast flowing part of the river.
I cannot warn people enough that no messing or jumping about must be attempted in
this area, as it is very DANGEROUS although it may not look so. The undercurrent
has taken many a person under, and they have never to be seen alive again!
The walk can be extended from here by keeping to the riverside path as far as Barden Bridge. At Barden Bridge we will follow the road due West for a short while before taking up a footpath on the left that takes us up and over "Middle Hare Head" and "Little Hare Head". After descending these small hills we then head toward and through "Westy Bank Wood" before rounding the trout pools at the conclusion of our walk. If desired people can enter the "Priory" of Bolton Abbey that is well worth a visit for those who have never been here before. When you come out of Bolton Priory you emerge on the road that takes you back to the Car Park. Please ENJOY your walk. For further details of the walk, please refer to Our Leader |
ANY FRIENDS OR FAMILY CAN JOIN THIS BRILLIANT BAND OF PEOPLE ON THE DAY AT THE SAID TIME. PLEASE INFORM LEADER OF ANY INTAKES!
A moderately easy circular walk starting with a spectacular view behind you of Bolton Priory. Field, moorland paths, Riverside paths and lanes will be followed. The start will be taken at a leisurely pace so as to make sure that ALL those who wish to complete the hike will do so. PLEASE take note of "ANDYS AMBLING ADVICE" and ensure that warm and waterproof clothing is/are taken in case of any change in the weather. Good STOUT waterproof boots must be worn!
A MAP of the walk is available HERE. This map is very rough; a copy of Ordnance Survey Explorer Sheet OL2 is recommended for those wishing a detailed map of the area.
