The Seventy-sixth of our "Hubberton Hikers Hikes" is now scheduled for Saturday February 20th 2010. The hike is planned to start at 11am from the TOP car park at Hardcastle Crags, located about a mile up Widdop Road from Slack near Heptonstall. The planned route is approximately 11 miles long, to take about 5 hours at a gentle pace, but may be shortened on the day depending on conditions. |

Directions: From Hebden Bridge: Take the Heptonstall Road up to Slack, then take Widdop Road (signposted to Colne), and follow for about a mile to the top Hardcastle Crags car park. This will be the starting point for the walk. Satnav nearest post code: HX7 7AZ (NB: This will overshoot by approx 200 yards). |
Map OL21 required. The walk starts from the car park. PART 1: Continue along Widdop Road away from Heptonstall for about a further mile. Take the concrete lane on the left, and follow to Gorple Lower Reservoir. Cross the dam, and from far side take path to Widdop reservoir and the Rocking Robin stone. (~4 miles). Have lunch around here. PART 2: return to Gorple Lower Reservoir (optionally via Gorple Upper Reservoir). return across dam, then turn right onto Pennine Way, and continue straight onto Penine Bridleway / Edge Lane and continue to Colden (optionally via Jack Bridge). Follow main(ish) road back towards Slack, cutting across to Widdop Road, and finishing the walk along the top of Hebden Dale, returning to the car park. This route is subject to alteration; please follow “YOUR LEADER” on the day. |

This is a fairly gentle walk in a local area, but of fairly challenging length for the time of year, particularly if weather conditions are poor or if ice is prevalent. Please be well prepared for wintery conditions regardless of the weather in your own locality! The start will be taken at a leisurely pace so as to make sure that ALL those who wish to complete the hike will do so.
