THE LAKES –BORROWDALE WEEKEND

THE FUN STARTS HERE

Friday 16th September 2005.

Meet at the Borrowdale Youth Hostel from 5pm to 7.30pm.

WILL ALL PLEASE BOOK IN AT RECEPTION UPON ARRIVAL!

When entering the Hostel book in at Reception. You are ALL booked in under the name of BRADLEY (“LEADER”) or Hubberton Hikers. Your rooms will hopefully have been allocated, as the staff will tell you.

You will be asked if you would like to book a Breakfast or any evening meal, I suggest you book and pay (about £3.50) for a breakfast for the Saturday and Sunday.

You may order sandwiches of a varied choice to be ready for collection after breakfast for a packed lunch. You may also make your own but if you do I suggest that sandwiches are prepared the night before to allow more time in the morning.

EVENING MEALS

The Friday evening meal has not been booked at this point in time but it is anticipated that we will all dine in the pub in the village at about 8PM. The pub is approximately 500 meters down the road towards Rosthwaite and is quite easily found.

The Saturday evening meal will be consumed in the village dependant upon agreement between ourselves.

Saturday 17th September 2005.

Leave the Hostel at 8.45AM and precede North Westerly towards the road. The walk continues around Great End before climbing Scar Fell Pike where it is anticipated that some great views will undoubtedly unfold before our eyes!

ALL who are attempting to start the walk MUST make sure they have the correct clothing, footwear and food reserves. It is imperative that we all stick together and don’t go walking off without telling your LEADER, (Leslie Wakeford!). If you do go off to the pub instead (Brian), You may find that the Mountain Rescue has gone out looking for you and you could end up with an expensive bill to pay!

Mobile contact will be hard to come across so don’t rely on this. If your feeling unwell stick with me throughout the walk so if anybody feels as though they need some assistance I can get it. If anybody is suffering from vertigo or such like they can report to me and a decision will be made as to where to re-direct the walk etc

When everybody is accounted for on completion of the walk, a massage service is available at £50 per session with the NOW experienced Aroma therapist/Leader’s Head Massage’ist Jeanette Powell (Yes Jeanette even you are allowed your name in “LIGHTS” – Stick with me Kid), but only AFTER your “LEADER” has tested the service FIRST!

SATURDAY EVENING

Entertainment will be provided “FREE of CHARGE” by the UNFORGETABLE “Bradley Experience” with his “sexy Quavers”(You can fight over this one)! He has just returned from a concert tour of London staring as “Joseph” with his amazing Technicolor Dream coat! Where he went down in “Spectacular Style” (He was shot at)!

If anyone has a Musical instrument and is willing to join in the “FUN with a capital F”, please feel free to join us.

Sunday 18th September 2005.

Breakfast in Youth Hostel at 8.00 approx.

A short walk of 17 miles is planned (only joking, about 5 miles really-HONEST) as a warm down. This walk will include Cat-Bells or Dale head climbing from Derwenwater via High-spy, dependant on the time we have. We will probably go back to the Hostel for a cuppa and a GINGER SCONE before heading off home.

This event is a part of our walking season and promises to be an excellent weekend. The committee of the Hubberton Hikers would like to extend a cordial welcome to ALL our friends and visitors who are joining us for the first time this weekend. If you are interested in joining us on any future hikes, please log onto our “NEWLY UPDATED” website at the following web address. www.hubbertonhikers.co.uk

DIRECTIONS

A 65 Skipton bye pass all the way toward Kirby Lonsdale. Continue along past Kirby Lonsdale heading for the M6. When you come to the roundabout at the M6 Junction 38 Take the motorway up to Penrith M6 Junction 40 and then take the A66 to Keswick, the B 5289 towards Buttermere/Rosthwaite where you should start to pick up the signs for Borrowdale YHA. If you go as far as Seatoller you have gone too far. Alternatively you may go on the M62/M60, M61 and then the M6. Follow the above instructions from Junction 40. The latter is quicker but not as scenic, so dependant on what time you set off - THE CHOICE IS YOURS!
