Well at last all the festivities are over and Santa has gone home yet again leaving
all the paper labels and cards etc to be cleaned up by us all. I do hope you all had
a tremendous Festive period and are now in need of some fresh air and long (ish) walks.
While most of you were filling up on Turkey mince pies and lots of alcohol (Brian),
Johnny Janice Maria and myself have been out and about getting soaked to the skin
developing new walks for you hikers for 2006. As you will now see the walks for the
entire year are now available on the web site along with the news of the venue for
the forthcoming Hubberton Hikers Christmas meal (Booking forms and deposits needed
by 21st January please - see main page).
If anyone has any further ideas on where they would like to walk, particularly the
weekend away walks, then please let me know so I may put the idea to the committee
for sanctioning for 2007. As you will see I have planned the weekend walks for May
and September already but these are open to change if any further ideas are put
forward. I do have alternative weekend walks away in Derbyshire and Wensleydale
that have been tried and tested if you all would prefer to add an EXTRA weekend
away during the year?
At this juncture I would like to THANK whole-heartedly the support crew who worked
tirelessly on serving food and repairing blisters etc on the Lyke Wake Walk. Without
their help and assistance I am sure many of us would not have walked round the whole
distance. A BIG THANK YOU to Leslie Wakeford akka the Ginger Scone QUEEN who
organised her troops (and the lie in!) not only in feeding the 13 who completed the
hike, but also the fetching and carrying of a BMW all the way around the 42 miles.
The MAGNIFICENT 4 are, Leslie Wakeford, Julie Murgatroyd (+ MUM - Great Egg Butties!),
Anne Walker and Geoff (lost me contact lens) Minshall, HERO'S ALL!
As you will all have seen by now it is planned to attempt the Shepherds Round Walk
on the weekend of Friday 30th June to Sunday 2nd of July. I will of course plan
some pre Saturday walks long before this as last year before the Lyke Wake Walk so
that those who feel they will struggle can up there fitness levels. I must stress
however to those who think that the Forty odd miles is beyond them, that the three
Peaks/Lyke Wake Walk is an altogether tougher walk so if you can get yourself up to
the same fitness level at least, then you should have no problems. If in doubt ask
Brian Ennis!
I am still in the early stages of planning this walk as accommodation and transport
has to be organised. If anybody knows of anyone who is willing to help out on either
dropping off, picking up or even on helping out on the catering side of things, please
let me know sooner rather than later.
If any hikers would like to attempt the Calderdale Way say over a long weekend would they please inform me and I will see if enough interest can be generated to plan a route, possibly staying overnight at Mankinholes Youth Hostel. Anybody interested please let me know before the Easter Holiday.
CONGRATULATIONS TO JUNETTE POWELL ON THE OCCASION OF HER PENDING 50TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS, (ALL TO ATTEND THE QUIZ ON 4TH MAY!!). I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ALL AT FUTURE EVENTS/WALKS.
